Upon completion of my Danish Studenter Eksamen, I joined a Red Cross project and travelled to Ethiopia. What I knew about Ethiopia was the stereo typical image of a country wrecked by the 1980s hunger and famine. Upon arrival in Ethiopia, I was stunned and surprised by its natural beauty, its green land and mountainous landscape. The people were far from the poor starving person with flues in their eyes waiting for foreign aid. Rather, the people I met, were proud and patriotic with strong traditions and ancient culture. Ethiopia is one of the only countries which were (almost) never colonized and the effect of this freedom is felt through the country from the beginning to the end of the visit. My first visit to Ethiopia and her beautiful people, left a profound and deep impression of me and I have kept my connection with the country ever since.
Exploring and experiencing Ethiopia is a profoundly live changing experience which I hope for other to experience. This is the driving force behind starting EtiopienRejser with my Ethiopia husband in 2008. We wish to share our love for this amazing country with as many people as possible by facilitation educational and exploratory trips to Ethiopia.
